What is Birdy Launching?
Birdy Launching is the major life transition you are going through as your kids leave the nest. This process is one of loss and sadness, a time of pride and excitement. A time when we need each other. Here at BirdyLauncher, we don’t call it ‘empty nest’... because the nest isn't empty - you are still there!
Bird Launching is all about launching your bird into the world as a young adult. And in the process, you also get to (re)launch yourself! After a couple of decades, or more, of hands-on parenting your life and identity, as well as your relationships, will change as you are going through this major transition.
It is said that the two most difficult times of parenting are when you bring your baby home for the first time and when your much bigger baby leaves the nest…
It doesn’t matter if it’s your first or last kid that spreads their wings and fly off. You feel it.
It is a transition.
BirdyLaunching usually comes with 3 phases: Grief, Relief and Joy. We know that each of you are a unique blend, so the experiences won’t be the same for all of you. And we also know awareness of the phases makes it easier to deal with it all. Each mama is unique and there is a path and support for all of you. Here at BirdyLauncher we work with our SOAR framework to support and guide mamas.
Now, here you are, going through this major life transition and shift and for many of us it’s a confusing and lonely time.
It’s a little-discussed pitfall of the flown kids: In addition to missing their children, many parents report experiencing confusion and anxiety about their own lives. They feel stuck and unable to plan.
Being a Birdy Launcher is a process of loss and grieving, of pride and excitement, of confusion and maybe even fear for what the rest of your life will be like. And it usually starts long before your little bird is leaving the nest…
